Ben Whishaw, The Sunday Times Magazine
The Sunday Times’s photographer is a gift to mankind.
Ben, baby, I love the vest/cardi and the jacket, but the hipster beard is getting outta hand.
Aww, I do adore it so. He’s so lovely with it, all serious and mature-looking with it. It makes me want to pet his face (almost as much as I’d like to pet the rest of him…!).
I’m with beaubete on this one! He’s such a good-looking chap and I adore beards anyway so fact he often sports one gives me the warm and fuzzies.
Sorry beaubete and iambid! I always prefer gents clean-shaven. Ben is one of the few I don’t mind when he gets scruffy, but this particular beard needs some general taming. Hiding those dimples is a crime!
True! I mean, he’s lovely either way (and it’s such a *horrible* *trial* to reblog this particular image over and over in conversation!), and I won’t argue it could do with some shaping. Maybe finger combing?
Ahahaha I’m gonna have to throw in my vote for Clean-Shaven Ben. I once explained season 2 of The Hour to Spouse by calling it “The Season where Ben Whishaw Grows the Beard and Then Shaves It Right Back Off Because the Show Never Needed to Grow the Beard in the First Place.” Facial hair is weird. It’s scratchy, a lot of men don’t know how to groom it properly, and if you’re not careful it can age you terribly. I never, ever thought I would find facial hair attractive until I met Spouse, who has had a beard the entire time I’ve known him, but he remains the one exception.
See, The Hour beard is the only one of his I’ve liked, but I think that’s because (as you mentioned) it looks groomed properly. It’s not scraggly or patchy and it fills out his face nicely. Now, this one has some stray wisps all over the place and the rest of it just hangs there and even looks kind of greasy. So thumbs down to this particular beard, but thumbs up to his Hour beard.
I have no strong opinions about beards on the people I smooch. I’ve never had a problem with scratchiness. Stubble is a different story of course.
Love him bearded and clean shaven both. Such a darling either way.
